 THAILAND WORLD SCALE BISPHENOL-A STARTS CONSTRUCTION

PTT Phenol Company Limited (PPCL) (a joint venture between PTT 40%, PTTCH 30%, and PTTAR 30%), starts construction its World Scale Bisphenol-A Plant at Eastern Industrial Estate, Map Ta Phut, Rayong, Thailand. The Laying of Foundation Stone Ceremony was held at the new premises adjacent to PPCL's Phenol Facilities on March 18, 2009.

Toyo-Thai Corporation Public Company Limited (Toyo-Thai) received EPC Contract on a lump-sum basis for this grass root World Scale Bisphenol-A (BPA) plant with a capacity of 150,000 tons per year from PPCL in Q1 2008. The scope of work by Toyo-Thai includes detailed engineering, procurement of equipment and materials, and construction on a lump-sum basis. As of February 2009, Toyo-Thai achieved engineering progress more than 90%. The plant is scheduled to be completed in Q3 2010. This BPA plant based on Mitsubishi Chemical process technology is a down stream project of PPCL Phenol Plant. When the BPA Plant is brought on-line, PPCL has put in place of one of the largest Phenol & BPA Complex in Asia. Bisphenol-A is used for epoxy resin and main raw material for Polycarbonate (PC) resins, which is used for compact discs (CDs), automotive parts and transparent sheets for roofing applications.
